Hillary Clinton

Hillary Rodham Clinton is one of the most famous women in the world. She is an American politician and serves as Senator for New York. She was a candidate in 2008 for the Democratic nomination to run for the Presidency. Hillary is married to Bill Clinton and was the First Lady of the United States from 1993 to 2001. She has encouraged women worldwide to achieve their goals.

Hillary Rodham was born in Chicago in 1947. She was a highly popular and active girl at school. She loved sports and the Girl Scouts. At high school, she was involved in the student council and the school newspaper. After graduating with a degree in political science, she went onto Yale Law School. There she met and began dating Bill Clinton.

Hillary and Bill married in 1975. She joined a top law firm and slowly established herself as one of America’s top lawyers. She focused on children’s law. When Bill became Arkansas governor, Hillary went to work on reforming the state’s education. She was Arkansas Woman of the Year in 1983 and Arkansas Mother of the Year in 1984.

Hillary Rodham Clinton entered the White House as First Lady in 2003. She spent eight extremely active years there, especially with health care and women’s issues. She became a US Senator in 2001. Clinton made history with her presidential campaign of 2008. Many believe she will one day become America’s first female president.

Dialogue 1

A - My brother and I are totally different.

B -  Really?  How are you different?

A - My brother is tall, and I am short.  He has blonde hair, and I have black hair.  Our personalities are different too.  He is funny, and I am serious.

B - Wow!  That is different!  My sister and I are different too.

A - How?

B - My sister is an aerobics teacher.  She is thin and strong, and I am weak and a little overweight.  Also, her hair is curly, and my hair is straight.  My sister and I are different, but we're good friends.

Dialogue 2

A - Mr. Green?

B -  Yes, officer?

A - Officer Hernandez tells me that you are a witness to a robbery.  

B - Yes.  At the ValueMart grocery store.

A - Can you tell me about the robber?

B - Yes. He's tall and thin.  He has short, black hair.

A - OK. Is his hair straight or curly?

B - It's sort of wavy.  

A - OK.  Does he have a mustache or beard?

B - No.

A - What about glasses?

B - No.  

A - What about his age?  Approximately how old is he?

B - I'm not sure.  Maybe in his late twenties.

A - Ok.  I'll give this information to the police artist to make the wanted poster.

Dialogue 3

1.      My friend Rich is coming to town next week. Have you ever met my him?

2.     No, I haven't.

1.      He's kind of crazy, but a great guy.

2.     Yeah, why do you say so? What's he like?

1.      He's really hard working, but very much a loner. He's pretty talented and can do just about anything.

2.     Sounds interesting. Is he married?

1.      No, he isn't.

2.     What does he look like? Maybe my friend Alice would be interested in meeting him.

1.      He's tall, slim and quite good looking. I'm sure your friend would find him attractive. What's she like?

2.     She's outgoing and very athletic.

1.      Really? What sports does she like playing?

2.     She's a great tennis player and also goes bicycling a lot.

1.      What does she look like?

2.     She's kind of exotic looking. She's got long dark hair and piercing black eyes. People think she is rather beautiful.

1.      Do you think she would like to meet Rich?

2.     Sure! Why don't we hook them up?
